If you’ve missed the last snail mail drop-off date before the Holidays, don’t panic! To save you trawling through the App Store, we’ve found five festive iPhone apps that let you send great greeting cards to friends and family via email and various social networks.
From simple vintage designs you can email from your handset, to completely customizable offerings you can share to Facebook and Twitter on the go, our five tried and tested apps offer a range of super solutions to suit.
1. Christmas Cards – 100+ Free Cards – Zaggle
While the “100+” in the app’s title appears a slight exaggeration, there are some really nice contemporary card designs here.
Once you’ve chosen a design from the good-looking bookshelf-style menu, you can customize the text on the front of the card and then send it as an email.
Cost: Free
2. Appygraph – Christmas & New Year eCards
With 10 designs for Christmas and 10 designs for the New Year, Appygraph has your Holidays cards needs covered.
Although sadly the message font can’t be changed (and we realize this may be a deal-breaker for some) the illustrated designs are a little different and look clean and fresh.
Cards can be personalized and then emailed out directly from the app, saved down and mailed from the Camera Roll, shared to Facebook or MMSed.
Cost: $1.99
3. Vintage Christmas Cards – Small View Media
This is really an image bank rather than an eCard app, as you simply save the image you want to use down to your Camera Roll and mail it out from there.
The selection is great however, with a wide range of authentic vintage holiday greetings card designs.
Designs range from cute to traditional to really quite unusual, meaning you’ll find one to suit everybody in your contacts list.
Cost: $1.99
4. Christmas Lifecards
If you’re interested in properly customizing an ecard design, or writing more than a few greeting lines, then Lifecards boasts the best functionality.
There is a decent selection of Christmassy designs, many of which you can customize further by choosing the amount of image slots, space for text, etc. There’s even an option to hand-write on the card, a nice touch for kids.
Once you’ve finalized your design and added in your pics and text, the sharing options are comprehensive.
In addition to saving down and emailing (at various resolutions or as a PDF), you can also share your card to Facebook, upload to Twitpic and even send it to Flickr.
Cost: $0.99
5. Red Stamp
We’ve saved the best for last. Red Stamp’s app is simply stunning.
The free Christmas and Hanukkah designs are lovely if you’re a fan of playful typography. There are also some particularly classy options for adding your own images. Don’t think tacky photo cards, though — these designs are a world apart.
When your ecard is complete, you can email it, save it to the Camera Roll, text it, share it to Facebook and tweet it.
